March 31, 2012 - The Path Bike Shop was featured in the February/March 2012 issue of Bicycle Dealer Magazine. Not only did we get a nice feature, which included an interview with The Path Bike Shop owner Tani Walling, but we also made the cover!

The article talks about the humble beginnings of the shop, the services we offer, and about how we are able to still be in business in a tough economic time where local bike shops are struggling and online bicycle retailers are thriving.

Bicycle Dealer Magazine is a national publication and a standard in the bicycle industry, so we were quite honored with such a feature in their magazine.

Here's the entire 2-page article in Bicycle Dealer Magazine.

January 17, 2012 - More Orange County XC mountain bike races are in the works for the 2012 race season!

lineup for 2011 Okole Stuff Cup RaceTani (President of The Path Bike Shop) met with Ron from Enduro Stuff earlier this week. It looks like The Path Bike Shop and Enduro Stuff will be presenting even more awesome Orange County XC mountain bike races this year.

Between the Enduro Stuff races, the Warrior's Society events, and the Over the Hump MTB Race Series, Orange County is becoming a hot spot for XC mountain bike racing.

Last year was the start of great things to come in the newly opened world of XC mountain bike racing in Orange County. Last year's Okole Stuff Cup at Irvine Regional Park and the Enduro Stuff Challenge in San Juan Capistrano were huge successes, and just the start of a fantastic future that's now in the works.

Watch the Enduro Stuff Events page, The Path Bike Shop Upcoming Events page, and The Path Bike Shop blog for more info. Sign up for our email list for updates.

October 26, 2011 - Our own Darrin "Crash" Maxwell was featured on the Kona Bicycles website! He talked to Kona about his annual Push-A-Kona ride, now in it's 8th year. Here's the article from Kona.

Push-A-Kona – Long Live Long Rides On Big Bikes

Darrin Maxwell from Orange County’s The Path Bike Shop organizes a hard core backcountry ride every year called Push-a-Kona. This is his 8th year doing it. It’s a treacherous route, has a bike weight limit (long travel bikes only) has a great turn out and a lot of involvement. Here’s an explanation of the motivation behind the event from the man himself. This year’s Push-A-Kona goes December 3rd. And oh yeah, you’re allowed to NOT ride a Kona, if you have to.

“The reason I do this ride every year has become very clear to me. It brings out riders of all kinds; friends that I have made over the years, XC guys, single speeders and DH’ers. All of them are just plain ol’ MTB’ers like me. How did this start, you may ask? Well, let me tell ya a little story…

I got my first Kona from The Path Bike Shop, back in 2001, after bending and breaking an assortment of different bikes. It was a Kona Bear. Four inches of sweet pedaling, do anything, travel! I built this bike up sweet, with not-so-light, but very sturdy parts. I think it weighed somewhere in the 34 pound range. Over the next couple of years I participated in local endurance events. Then I completely got hooked on longer back country rides – most with hike-a-bike sections and all with steeper than normal descents. Along with the progression of my riding, came moving up with frame travel. First, a Kona Coiler Deluxe, then, my complete all-mountain dream bike! My 2004 Kona Stinky Deluxe! I pedaled that bike everywhere!

Most of the “organized” endurance events were very XC oriented, with lots of fire road climbs, descents, and also a top dollar entrance fee. I thought, shoot, I’ll just put on my own ride! And Push-A-Kona was born! The spirit of the ride is to show up on a “do anything” bike. A bike that the rider is just as comfortable climbing to the top of the mountain for 2 hours, throwing up on a shoulder and hiking, then descending that mountain with whatever said mountain decides to throw at you! Steep and loose, drops, chunk, it’s all good FUN!”

July 17, 2009 - The Path Bike Shop opens a new chapter in its history this week...

The Path Bike Shop has expanded and moved from its current location to the area just next door. It's the same building, just next door to the old shop. We have been working diligently on the new shop during the past month. Tani and crew stayed until the wee hours of the morning last Saturday to get the last of the inventory set up so we could officially get the new shop open for business.
